Reseña histórica

A
LUNASA was founded in 1976 as a state company within the framework of the Costar Rican Development Corporation (CODESA), under the government of Daniel Oduber in Costa Rica, and the Venezuelan commitment of primary ingot supply of aluminum, by Venezuelan President Carlos Andrés Pérez.

By means of a contract with the Italian firm Tecmo-Hunter Engineering (T.H.E.) construction started in 1978 to install a plant that would manufacture finished and semi-finished product in the county of Esparza, Puntarenas Province.

In 1981, it started operating as National Aluminums, S.A. (ALUNASA), during the administration of President Rodrigo Carazo.

However, markets around then ad started to change drastically and this cause the project to fall away. Firstly, because central America, ALUNASA's potencial market was going through an increase in central American nations defending human rights and conquering democratic spaces, and this created the inevitably resulting implications for the economy and the commercial region. Furthermore, it was during Carazo’s presidential term that Latin-American nations had to face foreign debt consequences.

During the first stage, as a Costar Rican state company, ALUNASA was able to maintain its operations until December of 1985, when the firm Transitory Financial Investments (FINTRA) took charge of ALUNASA, with the sole purpose of privatizing it. On the 23rd of October of 1987, the second stage of its history initiated: the company was bought out by Pacific Aluminums, S.A. (a subsidiary of Superior Corporation S.A.), but in 1988 Alcasa jumps on board as a shareholder starting the 3rd stage with a progressively active participation of this Venezuelan company, which capitalized debt for raw material, reaching a 100% capital by 1994.

In 2000, the current stage takes place, under the presidency of Venezuelan Hugo Chávez Frías. ALUNASA is incorporated in the Venezuelan Guayanan Corporation (CVG) and becomes the only state-run CVG company working abroad.

This meant for a total administrative reorganization, reactivation and plant adjustment, disincorporation of a few product lines, reorientation of product, search and aperture of new markets and the development of logistic distribution.

Currently, the Venezuelan Guayanan Corporation (CVG) possesses 100% of the capital and moreover CVG ALUNASA, starting in November of 2009, is part of the National Aluminum Corporation, which groups all sectors of the Venezuelan state-operated companies.
